I am a fully qualified, experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor with training in psychodynamic therapy and additional training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and counselling young people. My registered and accredited status membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy reflects my additional level of experience and I practise in accordance with BACP’s “Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy”.
I have regular supervision with a qualified, experienced supervisor and also hold professional and personal liability insurance.
For many years, I taught English at secondary and higher education level, in England and in Cairo, Egypt. The pastoral responsibilities of being a tutor, counsellor, teacher and manager gave me extensive and valuable experience of working with young people and their carers. As a result, the difficulties encountered by parents and young people during adolescence is a specialist area of my work, along with the particular issues encountered by parents and adults in their middle years.
Alongside my private counselling, for several years I have been a course tutor on a BACP accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling course; and, as well, worked as a volunteer counsellor for a local counselling service.
In addition, living and working, fully immersed, in a different culture for a number of years has also helped me be sensitive to cultural diversity and differences.
